We will go over safety, face shield, respirator and face masks, wood toxicity, and avoiding loose clothing, long hair, and gloves. We will discuss both spindle turning and bowl turning and the various gouges for each type of turns: spindle gouge vs bowl gouge vs carbide tipped tools. Then we’ll explore the features of the wood lathe: changing the speed, appropriate speed for various bowl diameters; various ways to attach the work piece at the headstock 1) chuck with a variety of jaw sizes 2) woodworn screw 3) flange; using the tailstock to support a spindle; the tool rest and its adjustments. We’ll mount a bowl blank and show the features of turning a bowl. We’ll mount a spindle and do some sanding. And we’ll discuss cleanup and using the dust collector for sanding tasks.
